Usually, gynecologists in Kolkata divide the 40 weeks into three trimesters. The first trimester starts from week 1 to week 12. The first five weeks are critical in shaping the structure of the baby. The brain and spine begin to develop at this stage. The heart, arms and legs form.
In the beginning of the eighth week, the organs start forming and the heart starts beating in regular rhythm. The limbs and hands grow longer and sex organs are formed. At the end of the eighth week, your baby nearly grows 1-inch long.
By 12 weeks, the nerves and muscles start moving and your baby can now make a fist. The eyelids are formed in the meantime but remain closed.
The second trimester begins after the 13th week and continues up to 28 weeks. During the 16th week, the skeleton is formed completely. The skin is see through now. As the 20th week approaches, eyebrows, fingernails form. This is the mid time of the pregnancy and your baby grows up to 6 inches and weighs nearly 9 ounces.
At the starting of 24 weeks, bone marrow forms. The taste buds improve and your baby now can differentiate between tastes. The lungs form but wait to work. Your baby goes to sleep every day and wakes up during this second trimester.
The third trimester begins from the 29th week till the day of your delivery. The bones are soft at the 32nd week and your baby starts kicking. This is the period when for the first time your baby opens eye. Your baby starts absorbing vitamins and minerals for the body growth. Eventually, the baby grows a little big now and finds it difficult to adjust in the mother’s womb. By the end of 37th week, your baby is full grown and is ready to come out.
Though the 37th week is the estimated time, it’s always possible that your baby is fully grown before and your delivery date is much before the stipulated time.
