How you can balance your Vata with Nutritional food

Ayurveda recommends to eat food that have a balancing effect on the dominant dosha, or that will stabilize a dosha that has increased. You should favor foods that are oily, warming, or heavy. The tastes that soothe Vata are sweet, salty, and sour.

  • Do not over eat. Lightness balances the vata and keeps you healthy.
  • Do not eat too much sweet items. Moderate intake of sweeteners soothes vata.
  • Use ghee, olive oil or sesame oil to reduce vata. It is also beneficial for the digestive system.
  • Yogurt, skimmed milk  and buttermilk are always recommended.
  • Rice and wheat balances vata.
  • Any kind of fruits and dry fruits are good for balancing your vata.
  • Do not eat raw vegetables. Vegetables which cause gas must be minimized.
  •  Spices like cumin, hing, ginger, cinnamon, salt, mustard seed, fennel seed, black pepper are excellent in balancing vata.
  • Lentils and beans should be taken in moderate quantity as too much can cause increase vata.

Eating heavy food contributes in weight gain. Keep your meal light and mostly on fruits and vegetables. Cook your food well for easy digestion and always minimize your sweet intake.
