The ideal number of minutes a child should nap in the afternoon is 20-30 minutes. It should not be more than 30 minutes. It is known as Powernap. This nap releases growth hormones that help in the child’s development. The growth hormones help him/her to be alert, improve mental performance in school and lead to better sleep at night. However do not encourage or allow your child to sleep more than an hour. It can lead to sleep inertia or Grogginess.
